A traditional denture normally relies on natural suction to stay in the mouth, but an implant denture is different. The prosthetic is held in place with a small number of dental implants. These biocompatible posts join with the underlying bone so that they can act as artificial tooth roots, making your dentures more lifelike in the way they function.
Dr. Nawrocki offers two types of implant dentures based on a patient’s unique needs and preferences.
Once installed, a permanent implant denture can only be removed by an implant dentist in Cocoa Beach. It usually requires four to six dental implants for support, so it requires that you have sufficient jawbone density. However, it delivers greater long-term flexibility.
Your implant denture can also be removable if you prefer to clean it like you would a conventional denture. In most cases, removable implant dentures only require between two and five implant posts, making it possible to undergo this treatment even if you have sustained bone loss in your jaw.
First, you’ll attend a consultation, where Dr. Nawrocki examines your mouth, reviews your overall health, and determines whether you’re eligible for implant dentures. You may require one or more preparatory procedures first, such as periodontal therapy to treat gum disease or bone grafting to strengthen a weakened jaw.
Then, the dental implants can be inserted into your jawbone. Unlike many general dentists, Dr. Nawrocki is able to handle this process in-house rather than having to refer you to an outside specialist. After surgically placing the implants, you’ll spend the next few months waiting for them to fuse with your jawbone in a process called osseointegration. Once osseointegration is complete, we can secure your custom-made denture into place.
The process of getting an implant denture is lengthier than that of a traditional denture, but trust us when we say this solution is worth the wait!
You might be a viable candidate for implant dentures if:
We can decide whether or not implant dentures are right for you after a consultation.
Implant dentures have a bite force that’s comparable to what your natural teeth have to offer, letting you eat almost anything you want. They also prevent the slipping that often occurs with traditional dentures. Thanks to the stimulation provided by the implants, the jawbone will be kept healthy and strong; without implants, bone loss is more likely to occur. And compared to traditional dentures that only last around five to seven years, implant dentures generally have a much longer lifespan. If you take good care of them, they can even last for a lifetime!
