What are CEREC Same-Day Dental Crowns?
A traditional dental crown typically needs to be made at a separate dental laboratory, which is why more than one visit is normally required. But with CEREC, we’re able to create dental crowns right here in our office, meaning we can complete the process in just one visit. This means you can get a dental crown in significantly less time without having to compromise on the quality of the final restoration.
The Process of Getting a CEREC Same-Day Dental Crown
Getting a CEREC crown typically involves four major steps:
- Step 1: Preparation: Before you can receive a dental crown, we need to make sure that there will be a sufficient amount of room for it. A very small amount of enamel will be taken off your tooth. To prevent discomfort, we will numb your mouth before carrying out the necessary preparations.
- Step 2: Digital Impressions: Instead of having you bite down on some putty, we will simply scan your mouth and create a three-dimensional model of the tooth. This model will allow our CEREC software to design your crown.
- Step 3: Milling: Our in-office milling unit will carve your crown out of a block of ceramic material. This step can be completed in just 15 minutes in many cases.
- Step 4: Placement: You’ll be given a chance to try your new crown so that we can check to make sure that there aren’t any issues that need to be addressed. Once you’re satisfied with your restoration, we can cement it to your smile.
The Benefits of CEREC Crowns vs. Traditional Crowns
Both CEREC crowns and traditional crowns offer a reliable way to keep significantly damaged teeth safe from further harm. However, there are several advantages to choosing CEREC:
- It’s more convenient to have your crown designed and placed in a single appointment rather than needing to schedule a second visit.
- With CEREC, you don’t need to worry about taking care of a temporary crown.
- A CEREC crown is made out of a metal-free material that can be shaded to match the appearance of your natural teeth as closely as possible.
- The CEREC system utilizes digital impressions, which are much faster than traditional putty impressions. They also tend to be less prone to error.
